Sound Transmission Class:

• The STC rating is a widely used numerical scale that rates how well a wall or floor/ceiling system stops airborne sound transfer generated by speech, stereo, TV, or other sources. The higher the STC rating, the more efficient the system for reducing sound transmission. It is a common misconception that drywall, fiberglass batts, or resilient channels alone achieve high sound-deadening properties.
