Omni Infinity Media (OIM) is a lightweight, high-porosity growth media that is used as the rooting substrate supporting plant growth in many on-structure or at-grade applications. OIM is comprised of both GEO and BIO, plus a Slow-Release Fertilizer, and is 100% peat free.
GEO is a lightweight mineral aggregate. This lightweight and inorganic material makes up the bulk of the depth of the vegetative roof assembly and must be wetted during application to prevent erosion and excessive dust. Applied underneath the BIO layer the GEO substrate saturates and holds on to water, which in turn keeps young plant roots and seedlings healthy and happy.
Please note that: BIO and GEO must be sold together for a new project. Existing projects may purchase more GEO or BIO separately.

Coverage: Please view the Product Attachment PDF Section to see the Coverage Rates Chart
- GEO makes up nearly 100% of the volume of Omni Infinity Media.
- It comes in 4 cubic-foot bags.
- Bag dimensions = 20" x 40" x 6"
- 30 lbs / bag
- Compaction is 30%
- Multiply OIM area in square feet times depth of OIM in inches divided by 12, multiply by 1.3 for compaction of 30%, divide by 4 cubic feet for the number of units to order.
- Through colonization, biochemistry, and strategic ecosystem development, OMNI Infinity Media supports microbial communities and plant life within the geological substrate. By creating the conditions for life to flourish and encouraging that natural process, these materials transform into a robust landscape that grows within weeks after installation during a region’s typical growing season.
- OMNI Infinity Media used within a vegetative roof assembly is highly accommodating to your project goals. A built-in-place vegetative roof assembly can be employed from a minimum depth of 3” to 48” or deeper to support the growth of grasses, annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees—all with Omni Infinity Media.
- The high infiltration rate and high porosity make it an effective stormwater management tool. It has also been used in bioinfiltration and bioretention depressions and berms, bioswales, rain gardens, and vegetative roof assemblies.
Slow-Release Fertilizer: OMNI recommends the following brand below, however, if this is not available in your area then other slow release fertilizers with similar specifications and formulations can work as well.
- Osmocote Smart-Release Plant Food
- The fertilizer will be applied last.
- Ensure the fertilizer is a controlled-release granular fertilizer.
- Distribute the slow-release fertilizer, evenly (on top of) the BIO layer.
- Applied at a rate of 1 pound per 100 square feet.

Accessory Components of the Vegetative Roof Assembly: Please review the maintenance guidelines for incorporating the accessory components.
1.) Irrigation System: All vegetative roof systems using Omni Infinity Media must be installed with an irrigation system to ensure proper vegetation establishment and survival of the ecosystem during periods of drought. Once the vegetation is established, the irrigation system can and should be adjusted to reduce non-essential water consumption. (Please read the guidelines for appropriate irrigation frequency and installment)
2.) Erosion Control Blanket (as needed—to be installed after seeding). Used to cover the green roof during times of drought and/or off-season protection. Refer to project specifications and manufacturer’s installation instructions.
